The 2010 Census

I went online and looked at the 2010 Census questions at http://2010.census.gov/2010census/how/interactive-form.php. The hullabaloo over the questions is really much ado about nothing. I compared the form with other past forms at http://genealogygenius.com/UScensusform1930.aspx, and it really essentially the same form, only modernized. Given that other forms counted slaves owned, it a less offensive form than others the government has created in the past. I will happily fill it out, as it is shorter than most other census forms.

However, I have heard of the pre-census surveys sent out to randomly selected citizens. The questions asked on this form are definitely intrusive, such as "what time do you leave for work?" No one I know has received this form, and if I do, I will not fill it out- it is not required by the Constitution, and if what I hear is true, it is rather intrusive. I went to the site and found the survey section at http://www.census.gov/survey_participants/, but there is no straight answer about whether or not a citizen is required to fill out the form when I go to this link: http://www.census.gov/survey_participants/household_surveys/am_i_required_to_participate_in_this_household_survey.html. So in a nut shell,

Census 2010: Good, will fill out
Pre-Census random survey: Bad, will not fill out
